Car Hire London – The City
London is located in the south east of England and was originally named Londinium
by the Romans. Today, the City of London or ‘Square Mile’ is better known for being
the financial district, although Canary Wharf and the Docklands (site of London
City Airport) has developed into a thriving business centre.
London City however, covers a far greater area and is divided into 33 boroughs each
with its own individual character.
Shopping in London is second to none! Camden Town is renowned for its bohemian markets,
whilst huge high street stores are centrally located in the West End, along Oxford
Street and Regent Street. Whereas Knightsbridge, home to the spectacular upmarket
department store Harrods, is the place for designer boutiques.
For sightseeing in London, start at the huge London Eye wheel on the South Bank
for stunning views, then take a stroll along the River Thames either northwards
to visit Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and the Tower of London, or to
the west and over Westminster Bridge to see Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.
Take a stroll through the London Royal Parks which include St James Park, Hyde Park
and Regent’s Park and onto Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square and China Town. Book
a summer tour of Buckingham Palace, the Queen’s residency, and visit one of the
superb museums such as the Natural History or Science Museums.
At night the pubs, clubs and theatres around Soho and Covent Garden come to life,
but should you choose fine dining or a quick snack, London will not disappoint.
